Sky Manor Window and Door Info: SECTION 1

The different window styles

(This is a training and reference page and not for customers!)

the-basics

Windows and doors can be pretty a little intimidating at first. There is a decent learning curve when it comes to selling them.

This page is intended to give you both a brief intro and reference page for the types of windows and doors we sell. There is a lot more to these than I can share here, but hopefully it helps you feel a little more comfortable with them. The more comfortable and confident you are when it comes to this process, the better you'll be when it comes it getting in front of a homeowner!

Section 1: Window Styles

Just like with roof styles and shingle types, it's important you become familiar with the terminology regarding window styles. Recognizing the difference between a single vs double-hung is simple, but would easily be overlooked by a novice. To sound like a pro, learn the products well. You have to know what you're looking at!

Single-hungs, sliders, and picture/fixed windows are by far the most common window types you'll run into, especially in your typical tract home neighborhoods.

Casements and awnings are more expensive and are often found in your higher-end homes. Older crank-style aluminum casement windows were common 30-40 years ago and were pretty cheap, so casements in this regard have a bit of a negative stigma, but if you go to any high-end home, you'll see they have beautiful wood casement windows all around the house. Why? They provide a cleaner look (more glass) than hung windows of the same size.

I pulled this illustration off HomeAdvisor's website. They have some nice descriptions for each style and its pros/cons if you have time to check it out: https://www.homeadvisor.com/r/window-types/
